ABOUT THE ARTIST CRIS A LAWSON
Cris A. Lawson is an award winning modern impressionist artist who captures the essence of rural South Georgia in oil paintings. Her work conveys her love of the rural culture while documenting the everyday images, lifestyle, and people of her world. Her mission is to celebrate rural culture while capturing the beauty in the everyday while engaging the viewer in the stories.
A lifelong resident of southern Georgia, she is primarily self taught. During her youth, she was the recipient of an international student competition first place award, and upon graduation an art scholarship which she applied to her degree at a local college. After several career opportunities as an art director at a high end clothing store, she migrated into interior decorating and later freelance design. After raising her family, she has once again returned to her roots as a full time artist.
Cris is known for her willingness to share her love of art in workshops, public demonstrations, and generous auction donations of fine art painted live at fundraising events. She also teaches students privately in her studio.
After the pandemic, Cris reached out to her community to offer gatherings to paint en plein air around her community free of charge. She worked closely with Tifton Council for the Arts in developing a body of work of 50 pieces for a solo exhibition titled The Harvest in Fall of 2025. Pieces remaining in that series are touring various non profit art centers around the region.
Lawson is currently a coaching student of renown Master Artist Stefan Baumann, of PBS's The Grand View: The National Parks Through the Eye of a Plein Air Painter, and author of The Ultimate Field Guide to Plein Air Painting.
